Covering the 2024 Bangladesh protests: A photojournalist’s experience

I am Rahadh, an international photojournalist student at DMJX from Bangladesh. I covered the mass protests which erupted in July 2024, in Bangladesh. The protesters demanded reforms to the quota system in government jobs. What began as peaceful demonstrations quickly turned violent when security forces used excessive force. The country descended into chaos—gunfire, curfews, and military personnel patrolling the streets. It felt like a civil war, even though it wasn’t.
